MILLIMETERS AND INCHESMany of the cabinet hardware lines available are manufactured outside the U.S., and typically are sized by metric standards. If you are not pre-drilled for your cabinet hardware pulls, then your selection is wide open. If you are replacing existing pulls, it’s important to know exactly what drilling distance (center-to-center) you need. After removing a pull, measure the hardware for the distance between the holes.
If it measures “a hair” over 3 ¾”, it is likely that that is a 96mm center to center. In other words, if it doesn’t measure to exact component of an inch, it is probably metric. The list below gives you an idea of inch equivalents for metric for you most typical center-to-center measurement:
64mm = 2.52”
96mm = 3.78”
128mm = 5.04”
160mm = 6.30”
Here is the formula for conversion from millimeters to inches:
MILLIMETERS X .0394 = INCHES
It is advisable to replace metric hardware with new metric hardware. If you are ordering form an internet company, get a metric ruler and measure for exactly what you need.
